You know, when you think about it hard enough, you'll realize that this "Nightmare Force" thing is actually similar to the Symbiotes from the Spider-Man franchise, only instead of being a slime like life form, it's a smoke like one, over 1000 years ago the Nightmare Force took advantage of Luna's jealousy of her older sister to bond with her to become Nightmare Moon, after Nightmare Moon was defeated by the Elements of Harmony, the Nightmare Force escaped to the dark side of the moon, where it possessed nearly all of the inhabitants of the moon, turning them all into dark cloud like monsters, then while under the influence of the Nightmare Force they kidnapped Rarity, so the Nightmare Force could take advantage of Rarity's insecurity & fear of being forgotten to bond with her & become Nightmare Rarity, to continue what Nightmare Moon had started in the first place.
yeah there are some similarities, but I think corruption by dark forces is really, really popular in old legends and modern fantasies - especially in royal families who wanted to be good, but they used dark magic spells etc XD But they could make "a bit" longer story of it... I love those comic books (my wallet don't XD) but I think sometimes, they're too short for those nice ideas...
I understand what you're saying, but at least to me it seemed like turning into Nightmare Moon was not a choice Luna made of her own free will, I mean it's obvious that Luna loves Celestia, they grew up together, they ruled side-by-side, they fought great evils back-to-back, they clearly have a very strong sisterly bond, they're a very close set pair of sisters, but Luna secretly felt like her night was not being appreciated like it should have been, and it would make a lot of sense that some evil dark entity was taking advantage of Luna's fears & insecurity, trying to convince her that she would never be loved or appreciated by her subjects like they do with Celestia, just like the Symbiotes the Nightmare Forces brought out the worst in Luna, persuading her into believing that it would be better to rule through fear & oppression then through love & compassion, since the Nightmare Forces need darkness to flourish, they planned to have Luna betray Celestia so that Luna could eclipsed the Sun using her control over the Moon, once Luna eclipsed the sun she was in a ripe enough conduction to be able to be possessed by the leader of the Nightmare Forces, thus turning her into the evil Nightmare Moon against her will, I mean if you watch that scene near the end of S04E01, the look upon Luna's face seemed like that was something she didn't want to happen, like she was afraid because something went horribly wrong, and near the end of S01E02 when she turned back into Luna she seemed to remember what all she did & wish to seek redemption, as though she never meant for any of this to happen, and the way Rarity turned into Nightmare Rarity then back to Rarity again was very similar to what happened to Luna, the point is that neither of them seemed to become Nightmare Force hosts of their own free will, they were both being manipulated by Evil Symbiotic Lifeforms, ALSO I do admit that some of those ideas for the comic book stories do seem a bit short for their own good, but then again they probably don't want to have them consume too many issues for a single story, P.S. they do have some websites out there where you can just download the entire comic issues for free, that's what I did.
Well thanks but I want to support IDW - If everyone would just download it, they would cut down project... I'm maybe to lazy to make pirate copies of anything XD
Yeah, I think she was just afraid of that she won't complete her duties... That's why nightmare forces had easy way to corrupt her with dark magic... But to be honest, they failed canon story a bit- in S1E1 they said, that she was angry because ponies were sleeping when she was rising the moon and the reason of corruption was anger, not fear :v
Well that tale about the Mare in the Moon happened over 1000 years ago & not many stories from a millennium ago remain 100% accurate most of the time, plus what if there's a chance that Princess Celestia was unaware of the Nightmare Forces, if that was so then she may not have realized that her sister was being possessed by an evil entity, and it may have been that because of Luna's fear of being unloved & unappreciated that she became angry in the first place, like the Nightmare Forces were saying a bunch of stuff to Luna that clouded her perspective of what was really going on, like they took Luna's fears, insecurities, sorrows, etc., and turned it all into jealousy & rage, making Luna believe that she had no choice but to betray her own sister & make it so that the night would over power the day, and after Luna eclipsed the sun, the Nightmare Forces' plans for Luna had succeeded, she was finally ripe for possession, Luna may have had an angry look in her face when she betrayed Celestia, but she had a look of fear on her face when she was in the process of being possessed, and another thing -> the stories for the comics were written by the actual creators of the cartoon, so that means that there is an official-canon connection between the comics & the cartoon, it's just that the comics gives the writers more freedom to do what they want then the cartoon does, so they can tell darker more epic and intense stories in the comics then they can in the cartoon, so without a doubt the story arc featuring the Nightmare Forces & Nightmare Rarity actually are canon to the cartoon, so do you have any other things about the Nightmare arc that you think are non-canon with the cartoon that I should know of?
P.S. You make a good point about buying the comics from IDW, keep supporting on mac!
